5 Hair Mask Recipes For Healthier Hair


Regularly using hair masks is a cheap and effective way of minimizing hair loss & keeping your hair healthy. So, if you notice that the hair on your scalp is starting to thin, or your hair looks and feel dry, it may be best to include a hair mask in your hair routine.

For the following hair mask recipes always wash your hair first with a sulfate free shampoo. Towel dry, but make sure hair is well dampened before you lather your mixture. This allows your hair and scalp to absorb nutrients more effectively.

Yogurt-and-Egg Hair Mask 

Yogurt is best known for its microbial properties that aid digestion, but many do not know that it is also an ingredient that could effectively prevent hair loss. Yogurt is rich in vitamin B-2, B-12, calcium, magnesium and potassium — all of which are necessary for maintaining strong and healthy hair. Eggs, on the other hand, are full of protein which promotes the speedy growth of hair. When blended together, these 2 ingredients will help you achieve healthy tresses that will keep on growing

Ingredients 

1 cup yogurt 

1 lemon 

2 tablespoons olive oil 

1-2 eggs 

Procedure: 

1. Separate the egg whites and egg yolks. If you have oily hair, use the egg whites. If you have dry hair, use the egg yolk. If you have normal hair, use the whole egg. 

2. Beat the egg, egg yolk, or egg white in a bowl. 

3. Add the yogurt and olive oil with the egg and mix thoroughly. 

4. Squeeze in the lemon. Mix. 

5. Massage the mask generously into your scalp. Make sure to really pay attention to the roots of your hair. Comb in through with your fingers until the hair ends. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. You may also wear a disposable shower cap over your hair to make sure that the hair mask won’t soil your clothes.


Strawberry Hair Mask

The dirt and excess oils that clog the pores in your scalp can also cause undesirable effects to your hair. They prevent healthy hair from growing, weakens the existing strands that your hair follicles are holding, and ultimately, cause hair loss. 

Fortunately, regularly using a strawberry hair mask can help you solve this problem. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, so it is very helpful in controlling the production of scalp oil. 

Ingredients: 

3-4 fresh strawberries 

1 tablespoon of coconut oil 

1 table spoon of honey 

Procedure: 

1. Blend the strawberries, coconut oil, and honey until they form a smooth mixture. 

2. Lather the mask onto your hair. Concentrate on the roots. 

3. Leave the mask on for about 10-15 minutes. 

4. Rinse off with warm water. Strawberries have a sweet-smelling odor, so rinsing off with shampoo is optional. 

Pro Tip: 

This hair mask is best used only once a week or once every two weeks. You might over dry your hair if you use it too often.


Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Coconut oil is a natural source of vitamin E – a vitamin that can help keep your scalp healthy. It is also rich in medium-chain fatty acids. Together, these properties can stimulate hair growth, moisturize your hair, and reduce breakage. 

Ingredients: 

Coconut Oil 

Olive Oil 

Procedure: 

1. Mix in the coconut oil and olive in oil in 2:1 ratio; every 2 parts coconut oil is equivalent to one part olive oil. 

2. Apply the mask into your scalp and hair; massage it thoroughly. 

3. Wrap your hair in a towel or a disposable shower cap and let it sit for as long as possible. 

4. Rinse the mask off and shampoo your hair. 

Pro Tip: 

If you have dry hair, it is best to leave the mask on overnight. You will wake up with shinier hair.


Rosemary Hair Mask

While it is known as an herb that adds extra flavor in your food, rosemary also has properties that can promote healthy hair. It is actually a powerful antioxidant that help 

fight free radical damage that may have contributed to hair loss. Rosemary also helps combat too much oiliness and reduces scalp inflammation – both of which can cause the hair strands to fall off. 

Ingredients: 

2-3 tablespoons of chopped rosemary 

1 cup water 

Procedure: 

1. Bring the cup of water to a boil with the chopped rosemary leaves 

2. Strain the liquid and leave it to cool. 

3. When it is cool enough, pour liquid into your scalp and thoroughly massage it, from the roots to the tips. 

4. Let the mask sit and rinse it off after 10-15 minutes with warm water. 


Green Tea Hair Mask

Green tea is very rich in antioxidants and catechins that repress dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By doing so, it helps your hair follicles absorb the necessary nutrients it needs to grow sting and healthy hair. 

Ingredients: 

1 egg yolk 

2 table spoons of green tea 

Procedure: 

1. Beat the egg yolk until it’s frothy. 

2. Add 2 tablespoons of green tea and mix it thoroughly until your mixture attains a creamy texture. 

3. Apply the mixture onto your scalp and massage thoroughly. 

4. Let the mixture sit for 15 to 20 minutes. 

5. Wash it off with cold water and shampoo your hair to make sure that the mixture is totally removed.

For best results, apply this hair mask 2 times a week. Also, it is better to use loose organic green tea for the hair mask instead of commercial tea packed in tea bags because they went through less processing and are richer in nutrients.
